Letters written by John Cabot while travelling with his wife Caroline Whittier Cabot and studying medicine in Europe, 1887-89. Letters are addressed to his father George D. Cabot in Lawrence, Mass. and describe travel in Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Italy, and Switzerland; observations of surgeries; and an outbreak of smallpox in Prague. Also includes a few letters written by Caroline to her father describing her living conditions in Europe and inquiring about her children who stayed in Massachusetts. Collection also includes a receipt for goods purchased by George D. Cabot, 1855; an unidentified letter written from Philadelphia, 1858, signed by J.W.F.; a deed for land in Newton, Mass. between George and his mother Lydia, 1860; and letters written by John Cabot to his father and mother from Columbia University, 1902.
